9th February 1812: Arson at Shepshed

At 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, the 9th February, a hay rick belonging to a farmer, a Mr. Cumberland of Shepshed, was found alight. The fire was put out by Cumberland's staff. Cumberland was a Special Constable.

3rd December 1811: Luddism comes to Leicestershire

20 stocking frames were destroyed at Shepshed in Leicestershire on this night, the first known incident of Luddism in the County. 3 Midland Counties were now directly affected by Luddites.
