14th May 1812: William Sykes of Meltham charged with raiding for arms

On 14th May 1812, a shopkeeper from Meltham called William Sykes was charged with representing himself as being 'one of General Ludd's men', and raiding for arms in the area of Meltham. He was escorted to York Castle by a troop of Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoons) to stand trial of the next Assizes.

As reported in the Leeds Mercury of 16th May 1812.
