16th December 1811: Rick burning at Basford

A small rick of hay belonging to a farmer was set alight, near to Basford paper mill.

As reported in the Derby Mercury of 26th December 1811.

  1. William Felkin, who worked for Heathcoat and presumably Boden during this time, as well as bribing workers not to destroy his bosses machines, states that the rick burnings were attacks against members of the Yeoman guards (with which he was associated)
