At 8.00 p.m. on Sunday 3rd January 1813, a 16 year-old boy was sitting alone in the house of Mr Edmund Lowe of Crossland Street, Nottingham when the front door was opened. Five men walked in, all with handkerchiefs tied over their faces, and ordered the boy to show them where the stocking frames were kept. They then destroyed 3 knotted and 1 footing frame.
Afterwards, they threatened the boy on pain of death not to leave the house or raise the alarm. Leaving the house, one of them fired a shot into the air from a pistol.
As reported in the Derby Mercury of 14th January 1813. Thomis (1970, p.181) records this incident as having destroyed 3 silk frames.
