16th May 1816: 200 Special Constables sworn in at Bury St Edmunds

Following a well-attended meeting organised by Alderman T. Foster at the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds, 200 person were sworn-in as Special Constables in the town, and began nightly patrols. Thereafter, the town was quiet.
